The advancement of solar power in the global energy mix is demanding and launching diverse affiliated products and services that will help the sector develop.

Smart Solar Delivered

DNV GL is working toward making data the “key enabler for effective performance of renewable assets.” The company will launch its new software GPM HORIZON at Intersolar Europe. According to DNV GL, the software will provide “real-time monitoring and fleet management for complete renewable energy portfolios, including solar PV, wind and energy storage assets.” The company describes the software as offering a streamline control room experience for renewables assets, with key information delivered through customizable dashboards.

Combatting Unreliable Grid Services

Startup Africa Power Storage will be at Intersolar Europe to discuss the new company’s mission of increasing access to and reducing the cost of power in emerging markets. The company wants to help solve the power problem for the 95 percent of the 1.2 billion people without grid access in Africa and Asia by delivering affordable retail and commercial on- and off-grid battery power solutions. APS says that its solution can save $2,340 per year in diesel fuel.

The UAV Evolution

Drones are taking over the solar airways, as the need grows for more accurate and timely inspections that deliver better operations. Kohler Service UG—Flying Inspection Services is working to fulfill those needs with its thermographic examination service for solar PV facilities. The company carries out the inspections via drones equipped with high-resolution infrared cameras. According to the company, it offers 10 pilots, eight drones and 16 evaluators that can deploy services internationally.

Flying Inspection Services will be exhibiting as part of a group of companies at the booth for the Investment and Marketing Corporation Saxony-Anhalt.

Making Green Hydrogen

Solar power may be the next key to sustainable transport — a belief that is driving the Hydrogen Power Storage & Solutions (HYPOS) project. Representatives of the project will be at Intersolar Europe to share the project vision for producing hydrogen from renewable power on a large technical scale for energy technology applications.

The project is funded under the Twenty20—Partnership for Innovation from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It has more than 100 partners working to demonstrate the possibilities of the hydrogen industry in central Germany.
